Boss: “Yesterday when my son went to play with his friends, he hurt his fingers holding those hard Ebnoite balls. Indeed it is a tough job to send it straight fine poly wooden planks which are so long!”
Saying this most of his employees present in that meeting really couldn’t understand what exactly their boss was saying! Majority of them didn’t even know what ebnoite is in the first case! Few of the smart ones kept shuffling the words ‘son’, ‘play’, ‘ball’, ‘wooden plank’, and ‘long’ and did come to a conclusion that may be their boss was talking about the game Bowling!
This is just one instinct! If you have watched the movie, “3 idiots” … you would be very familiar with this lines below –
Instruments that record, analyse, summarize, organize, debate and explain information; that are illustrated, non-illustrated, hardbound, paperback, jacketed, non-jacketed; with foreword, introduction, table of contents, index; that are indented for the enlightenment, understanding, enricment, enhancement and education of the human brain through sensory route of vision – sometimes touch…
If you haven’t seen this movie yet, in plain simple English the above lines just meant a ‘BOOK‘ !!!
Don’t we come across many such situations in our daily lives in one form or the other? Why can’t they just say it in plain simple words?!?! Why to complicate the meaning? We too do such by mistake or may be intentionally. Just to help ourselves out, let me share a small fact tonight. By making it simple in meaning and language, if we properly communicate with others, not only will they feel comfortable with us but also like us! Openness and the will to communicate between people is more important that using high flying words in front of others trying to show that we know a lot more and in the mean process if the others are not able to understand what we saying, then there is nothing more downgrading for ourselves! Lets not think of showing our “highness” in the choice of such words but by showing our “openness” by staying simple. In the long run, simplicity wins hearts and minds and this in turn increases respect for the speaker and enables better understanding and work performances! And we still become “high” in front of others but in a good way!
Them failing to Understand = Our failure to Express. So who really failed in the end then ??
Do think on this, lets share it simple!
